Numbers such as 29×29, 52×52 and 104×104 in fuse-bead posts usually describe the number of grid cells across and down. They are not centimeters or bead diameters. When viewing an imported pattern in Doumen, check the recognized grid dimensions before choosing a physical pegboard.

What the two numbers mean

29×29 normally means 29 columns and 29 rows; 52×52 and 104×104 work the same way. These are canvas dimensions, not necessarily the occupied outline. Blank background cells can make the actual bead design smaller.

Grid counts are not physical measurements

The same grid count can produce different physical sizes with different bead sizes, peg spacing and fusing results. Measure your own materials rather than assuming that 29 or 52 corresponds to a fixed length in centimeters.

Count usable pegs on a board

A board's outer frame dimensions are not its usable grid. Check how many pegs can actually hold beads across and down. Product series may not interlock, and a board described as large is not automatically 52×52.

Placing a small pattern on a larger board

If the occupied design is 29×29 and your board genuinely has 52×52 usable pegs, you have 23 spare positions in each direction. To center it, choose how to split that margin before placing the first bead; an odd margin cannot be divided into two equal whole-cell margins.

When a design is larger than one board

Check whether your boards are designed to interlock compatibly, then divide the pattern according to their actual peg counts. Working in separate sessions on non-interlocking boards does not by itself ensure that the final pieces will connect. Plan transfer, fusing and assembly too.

Using grids and count hints

Group long counts into 5×5 areas. After importing a clear pattern into Doumen, color highlighting and consecutive-bead count hints can help you read it. You still need to establish the starting peg on your physical board.

Before you begin

Check the pattern grid first, then the board's usable pegs. Doumen helps you read a pattern and highlight color codes; physical board compatibility must be checked separately.
